Here is a real plain jane approach to the logo. I'm been doing alot of reading on the official subaru website about usage of the brand associated logo's, font, and whatnot. Anyone that is curious enough to try to help, I would advise you spend some time reading the subaru "brand identification" guidelines manual. Alright a few cn's:

1. Isolation area: Like all other companies that have trademarked logos, they're that for a reason. The use of a logo, easily associates a visual aide with that particular brand/company. Subaru (using the pre-sized logos on thier site), demand no less than 1/2'' clearance from SELECTED logos/prints to add text. Most don't allow an additional picturen to be added to disctract from their design. When resizing one of thier banners or logos, it may then be required to multiply the isolation area around the item, in order to maximize the impact of the advertisement.

2. There are actually restrictions on modifications to the color of font and logos belonging to subaru. (i.e: the word subaru must never appear in any color other than black or white. http://print.subaru.com/logos/guidelines/BI%20Manual%20TOC/6-7.pdf)

The real cn's: There are alot of things to be considered when making a new logo, or any shwagg for our crew. How legal you guys want to be is up to you. Chances are, someone may notice at wbm is we totally gank a subaru idea;)

i did a quick read through. the isolation is actually (.5*X) where X is the height of the star cluster graphic...which means anything else (other pictures, etc) must have a buffer of at least half the height of the star cluster.

after talkin w/ dusty b i came up with some ideas... i dont have any cool image programs on my puter so i dont have pics but... here they are...

-a tire pattern with CSC running through it. i thought about what kinda of tire pattern and thought of a gravel tire and a nice tarmac tire but. if the gravel tire was used it could be kinda hard to make out compared a tarmac tire. plus a tarmac tire would look more aggressive imo.

- some kind of gauge theme with the needle pinned with csc incorporated into it.

- along the same lines of the tire pattern but have four tire patterns fading away like awd burnout w/ of course csc in it:)

if anyone wants to use my ideas to come up with some images feel free to.

I do like the text above the star more than below, I think... maybe for the text, and maybe the star too, have a different color outline? So like on a black shirt, have a yellow outline around the blue text and star... I think that would help the text look more interesting without going and using some crappy, busy one.

Oh, and good idea with the black shirt with simple white and "The Crew" on the back... but are we staying a "crew" or are we changing that? ^^;;

Haha, yeah, by not having the engine fairly "solid", it becomes WAY too busy. It needs to be made very simplistic, just showing the shaft, connecting rods, and pistons... too much of the shiny detail makes it really TOO detailed to go on a shirt or stickers.

If my opinion matters at all I think any logo on the shirts should be simple and get the point across. Like ctsubaru.com across the back on the shoulders and a simple design on the front. If we'd want "crew" placed anywhere Id say it should be smaller and on the right sleeve of the t-shirt. Give me a few days to work on a design? Ill post it up ASAP.

Yeah, exactly... obviously with the edges on the boxer smoother and less complicated... and yeah, a white, rounded-corner box around it (like all other logos of that sort).

I think that would work great as a t-shirt, then we can just put the URL on the back of the shirt. It'd be good for hats too, you could put that logo on the back of a flex-fit, and on the front we could have just "CSC" or something... and for stickers, maybe just the "boxer" portion in whatever color and the URL next to it in the same color (I think stickers look better usually length-wise)...

These are a few of the designs I came up with using decals and such off of Subaru rally cars. I think my favorite out of the 3 is #1 because of its simplicity and I also think it looks real clean, #4 design being a joke although Id wear it haha. Sorry if they look a little messy but I only have the paint program here at my office. I know the logos show yellow with the blue background but my vision is whatever color shirt and the logo/writing in 1 color. For example:

1.) Yellow shirt w/ black logos/writing
2.) White shirt w/ black logos/writing
3.) Black shirt w/ yellow or white logos/writing
4.) Red shirt w/ black logos/writing

My opinion is that yellow shirt with black logos/writing would look the best and stand out in a crowd. Its probably better to have a light color shirt compared to dark considering we’ll mostly be wearing the shirts to shows in the spring/summer heat. Also If we wanted the word crew/team on the shirt I think it would be best in small font towards the bottom of the right sleeve as I attempted to show in my designs. As in all the designs I kept ctsubaru.com written across the back shoulders. What do you guys think?

I certainly do like the font of the original sticker logos...

And as for STIGuy's designs, I really only like the first one in it's simplicity. Problem being though, it wouldn't be that different from official SWRT merchandise.

I still like the MLBish one the best. Someone want to take the design and make it nice and simple with the line tool? I'm busy today. ^^;; There just needs to be at least a small gap between the cylinder heads and the crankshaft area, even on the cylinders on their down stroke, because otherwise it might be difficult to see. Also, maybe just a bird's eye view of it, rather than angled. The crank area could even just be a rectangle with 4 cylinders coming out... that would be basic enough but anyone who knows cars or Subarus at all would know what it is... in general, at least. ^^;;

Yeah, that's completely understandable, I knew this wouldn't work for the top logo or for stickers. Maybe as a second shirt or something later on down the road.

It should definitely be really simple, to the point, and obviously Subaru. :-\ Nothing too busy, and probably NO overlays at all. We need a logo that can be made big (for like the back of the shirt), but can also be clear small and that can go say, next to the text like the simple one we have at the top now... so it'd make a better sticker. Say if we were using the Subaru logo (example), we could simply have the logo large on the back with the URL, small on the front top corner, and then maybe the Crew/Club or whatever on the shoulder... I think it'd be very clear and clean... and look professional. People would like to join us and get a shirt ;) ;)
