Taking off the bov tonight. I snapped the bolt that fastens the bov to the shroud that is over the intercooler.
Now I have half a bolt stuck inside the thing and cant remove it. I went out and bought a drill tap / bolt extractor and hopefully this works.
Im so unhappy about this :( :(

you guys got any suggestions?
I bought a screw tap drill bit and a bolt remover tonight. Gonna try this to see if it works.
The piece that the bov/bpv is attached to seems to be the intercooler shroud thingy. It doesnt look like its the actual intercooler. From waht it looks like I could actually remove the black shroud around the intercooler and hopefully get to it from behind.
Other than that maybe just take the piece to a shop that can remove bolts. Not sure what to do.
Let me know !

Bummer! :banghead:
make sure to hose it with plenty of penatrating oil (or WD40 in a pinch). let it sit for a while too, then drill and extract... if it's stuborn, use some heat. good luck, i use lots of these :toast: :toast: :toast:

The weird thing is , I was taking them off not putting them on. The bolt was half way out then jammed up and I sheered the thing in half. Its like a flat break right in the middle of the bolt.

You took that bolt out when you put the BOV in though, right? Could have been cross-threaded when you put it back in, caught, and snapped when you tried removing it.

Yea that is very possible. They were really easy to get off the first time and now they are a a pain in the ass.
THe other one is doing the same thing, im afraid to go any futher with the other one cause that ones gonna break too. Not sure how to go about getting that one off either.
Im not sure why its doing this , i really dont get it.

I feel for you. It's really easy to over torque those little guys. I might have replacements for you, BTW. I'm not sure about your BOV, but my BOV rides really close to the intake manifold. The TMIC can shake easily and perhaps the flange of the BOV was shearing away at that bolt as the head of the BOV was hitting the intake manifold. +1 for the PB Blaster... aluminum threads are really sensitive to stripping.

Good news and Some bad
I worked on the issue again tonight. I finally got the other bov bolt off without it breaking so thats good.
The bad news however is while trying to use the screw tap and remover the bit broke inside the bolt. The bolt was actually just beginning to move when it happened. Now this leaves about 0% chance of me actually getting this out myself.
So the only way now is to take the piece to a specialized place. Only way to do that is to take off the intercooler. Mind you I am all new to working on cars and cars in general. After about 8 calls to brent I was able to finally get the damn thing off. Those hoses are really no joke.
Now the intercooler is laying in my room all nice and warm. I just have to find someone to take that damn bolt out now.
Top top off all of brents bov issues / threads.
This is why you dont buy a bov

can you get a grip on the drill, or did it break flush (damnit)
another idea is a dremel tool with a small grinding bit to hollow out the bolt, dremels rule!
fantomas
03-23-2006, 12:34 AM
you can't drill out the bit and try again?
abnormal
03-23-2006, 12:36 AM
bits be made from some hard sheet!:(
dremel with a steel eating bit mounted in a drill press would do the nasty
aimetti

The bit broke completely flush with the bolt , go figure right.
NO way in hell ill be able to drill it out i dont think.

yyyyikes. I did something similar on a tremolo block of a guitar (broke a whammy bar in it, then proceeded to break the drill bit in the whammy bar).
I short... you'll have to bring it someone with better tools.
