I vote for a swap. :) It already looks excellent... maybe get some summer rims to REALLY make it look great... and the projector fogs will look badass, too. But a motor swap would make this car really friggin badass. :) Maybe in a few years, like mine.

In this order, Brembos and STi BBS wrapped in azenis, KYB AGX's and whiteline springs, bushings and rear sway, then lastly the swap which i will not specify what engine yet but I allready have this in mind and you all will find out closer toward the final stages (Like when i turn to ECS for a harness).

And to update, lines are done, I changed the knuckle/spindle on the pass side after royally effing up the wheel speed sensor and tone wheel or reluctant hub idk what its called but it has alotta teeth and the wheel speed sensor reads its movement or lack thereof.
Both sides waiting on new caliper bracket bolts and new cotter pins for the ball joint and tie rod nuts from subaru coming in today and hopefull this 4 day brake project will end.
on the plus side it was a good opportunity to add some ride height up front.

Well all I have to say is I thought your wagon was awesome before but now you're taking it to a whole new level.
What are your plans for the transmission?
kawikid20o2
10-23-2008, 04:44 PM
Im going to take it easy on this one for a while, and then most likely i'll build an RS tranny for it.
Rob T
10-24-2008, 04:52 PM
You will prbably get a lot of people telling you it will never last but 2.5RSMatt on Nasioc has had an RS trans with a USDM STI swap for awhile now.
kawikid20o2
10-24-2008, 08:15 PM
I have faith in it, i think the RS trannys are more robust than 02-03 wrx trannys anyways. Plus I am not rough on transmissions I shift slow and never launch it.

Randys car has been outside for a while now but the hood being down just means no more progress. Though i did peak in there for some help with the wiring of my car, nice reference it is.

why dont u tell everyone how that fog projector retrofit worked.
he had the nice expensive JDM ones. then dropped 1 and shattered the glass. so then he took the projectors out and put them in his stock gt fogs and they look like mine!

kawikid20o2
11-18-2008, 03:46 PM
So i just pmed Zephyr for a quote on my wiring and he said he would do it for $800 and that would be really well spent as the car would run after 2 weeks including shipping and no mistakes. I am seriously considering this to get the car out of randys hair. Lets see if he would like to chime in on this topic.

Rob T
11-18-2008, 04:40 PM
$800 is a decent price for doing the wiring, especially if it includes the AVCS. Does he help with the reinstall if there are some wiring quirks that need to be worked out?
kawikid20o2
11-18-2008, 04:55 PM
Rob i dont know what he does if there is an issue with his merge but he is very well reccomended and has done many similar merges successfully.
But yes his price includes the AVCS and immobilizer wiring.

But yes his price includes the AVCS and immobilizer wiring.
I know he's good. He wired my buddy Andy's swap for Broken Motorsports. I just know that when Billy was getting the car back together, he mentioned they had a couple of things to figure out and it made me think of what would happen if it was a wiring issue after he was done.

I think he leaves you with a few last connections and instructions on what to do based on what you see in the car. At least ive been told that by a couple of people who have used his harnesses.

If you haven't decided on def sending the harnesses to Zephyr, Keener from Garage Tuning started his own business, $750 for a merge. It's on RS25.

Im really sorry guys, im just not as cool as you all think. I blew up my motor by trying to increase the compression. You see i thought you could just throw some sheet metal on top of the pistons and that would do the trick. Turns out that causes some mechanical damage in the form of bent valves and mashed heads.
So yea guys, have a great thanks giving while i rebuild.;)

Next on the list is 'whip-its' for dry nitrous injection, i think the cream will be good for upper cyl lube.

Update:
Motor is just waiting for a timing belt, a new camgear, some dumass studs, andddddd then i get to throw the acc.'s on and she will be ready to drop in.
I painted my stock wheels for the snows. Intake mani went on, exhaust mani and helix uppie. Silicone turbo inlet and i started to mess with the exhaust i will have to weld up, this should be fun hopefully as easy as randys was but i doubt it.
I started to pull the front harness and had some hang ups which led me to call Zepher and ask him if it was really necessary. He said i could just pull the SMJ through that gromet myself and leave the front harness in the car. I opted to do this.
anyways time for some more pics for your entertainment.

I guess your harness is the other one hes got holding mine up:devil:
I am really excited to get the harness back and have this project finally come together. And about the transmission, i will be staying with the stock one untill something pops then i will build it, for now the 4.11's will be nice and i will take it easy on her.

I certainly wish they would, i think subaru 4 pots would clear though.

thanks man, put alot of work in to it. Definitly gets the honeys!

I don't think they will even fit over the 4 pots unless you have spacers... because like all other Subaru 16" wheels, they are 6.5"... besides the 98-01 RS wheels. Brembos... definitely not. ^^;;

Soo does that mean that you are offering to wire future swaps for much less? Or more that you dont know what kind of time and precision goes into making the swap run like a factory equiped car?
After looking over the cost of the whole project, I am glad to pay for that kind of service. The time Zephyr is saving me for that $800 is well worth it to me so that I am not standing outside in the snow, putting this car back together.

No i did not start it up, i noticed this issue before finishing everything in the engine bay. The height of the engine is affecting the gear shifter linkage as well so i did not want to mess anything up with the transmission as i cannot take it out of first gear due to this issue.

The TR&D exhaust is the one i had been trying to sell for months and decided to hack it up and make something sweet with it lol.
Right now i just got done connecting all the of the clips under the dash that were responsible for that mess in the last pic and i cant get that fuel pump to go so i think i need to call zephyr up and see what i may have done wrong. I still do have one more ground to attach under the hood that i found today, that may have something to do with it, but im not sure.

If its the ground on the drivers side of the bay, you need to hook that up to get fuel pump & ECU response.

If its the ground on the drivers side of the bay, you need to hook that up to get fuel pump & ECU response.
Nope it wasnt that one, i just forgot to put the actual fp plug in at the top of the access panel. I hooked that up and now the fp kicks on when i put the key in. I thought that was wierd so im gunna go through the diagram again and make sure thats all right. I turned the key today and it cranked but made no effort to start so i think some thing is wrong. Also i found twp connectors that didnt go to anything which i will post pics of later.
ScrapinSTi
01-15-2009, 01:02 AM
fuel pump kicks on when you put the key IN or when you turn? Something is seriously crossed if its doing it on key in, because the only thing linked to the key in is usually a chime or keyring light.
kawikid20o2
01-15-2009, 01:14 AM
It happends when i put the key in before you even turn it so the acc wire must be swapped or something.
ScrapinSTi
01-15-2009, 01:19 AM
yeah... thats an odd one... there is usually almost NOTHING on that circuit... could be something as simple as the tumbler is wired wrong. Did you remove the lock/tumbler/ignition at all during the swap?
kawikid20o2
01-15-2009, 01:25 AM
Nah i didnt take that out, just unplugged it. But there are other things effected by this like the headlights stay on with the key out and the driver door trigger circuit seems to think it needs the light on it to be on all the time when it never worked before.

ok guys i got it started, ran it for like 45 sec to make sure it would idle, went out got coolant and distilled water, came back and got hose clamps on all the heater hoses and whatever and put the intercooler back and now she wont even try to kick the starter. I am stumped, i changed nothing electrically related until i encountered the problem and nothing that i did change helped.
ScrapinSTi
01-16-2009, 03:14 AM
is it clicking like its trying to start? Do you get a CEL before you try to start? fuel pump kicking on?
btw what was the wiring problem?
kawikid20o2
01-16-2009, 03:25 AM
the only click is the clutch switch going, no sound from under the hood. The fuel pump goes on as you try to start.
all i did to fix the wierd shit with the pump goin on prematurely was to disconnect a 2 pin black plug that goes to the bulk head from the ign cyl.
Edit: only code was p183 fuel temp sensor
kawikid20o2
01-16-2009, 07:59 PM
I got the starter to kick twice today but the car wouldnt stay alive because of the broken gas pedal i had hooked up but everytime it would go and die i had to get out and mess with the wiring to the starter which i though was causing this problem. ( it seemed like the spade was loose that goes on the starter from the that red/yellow wire) So i replaced the spade and had no luck getting the starter to kick once again.

allrighty shes running but i had to jump the ground from the neg terminal to the starter case in order to get that starter going. Also the idle is a bit rough and it was running ritch but it sounded like only 3 clys were firing untill i reved it so i think it is related to the ground problem.

Hey tommy no need for that kinda talk you know how it is tryin to get parts around the holidays. It seemed like for a while there every step i took i had to take 3 back but this is the real end with only a little work cleaning connections and welding the rest of the exhaust left to finish it is a couple of days from being %100. And holy shit did i learn alot taking this route.

Ok guys, i need help, it is running like shit, wayyyy too lean on idle to keep from stumbling as if there was a launch control on for the idle. Once you hit the gas it revs up and is a bit slow to return to the crappy idle but you can tell its lean theres hardly any condensation from the exhaust, it is mad hot and it stings my eyes.
So please any suggestions at this point are welcome as i would really like to wrap this up in the next couple of days.
CELs: (for stuff not plugged in) i have not had any other codes stay these are current after the changes i made this week.
P0037: rear 02 heater circuit volt low
P0245: wastegate solenoid circuit low
P0447: EVAP emissions crap
P1400: Fuel shit
P1446: Fuel shit
P0185: Fuel temp sensor

check fuel rail for tightness and leaks around the fuel injectors. mybe bad o rings too
ScrapinSTi
01-20-2009, 12:39 PM
no... If your fuel system is not sealing, it might not be generating enough pressure to run correctly.
When you say it burns your eyes, what is burning your eyes?
kawikid20o2
01-20-2009, 12:50 PM
I checked for vac leaks last night today im inspecting the turbo inlet for cracks.
When i said it stings my face i meant the exhaust fumes there was also not condensation coming from it while it was snowing and the temp of the gasses can burn ur hand after just a couple of secs. Its really freakin hot/ lean.

How many rpms is the motor turning at the rough idle. iirc the normal vacuum reading for a healthy engine is -17-19psi.
ScrapinSTi
01-20-2009, 08:18 PM
actually its -17 to -19 hG... :p

Whatever, you know what I meant. I've said it before and I'll say it again.... propane is the best/easiest way to find a vacuum leak.
kawikid20o2
01-21-2009, 07:08 PM
dusty, is a normal propane torch good enough to find leaks and what happens when you shoot it in there, stumble, rev? I cant get any hose to respond to the propane and its definitely not empty.
Dusty B
01-21-2009, 07:13 PM
The engine rpms should climb when exposed to propane.
I've never had an experience with a regular propane torch. I used to use a 2lb bottle with a metering device that just baaaaaaarely let gas come out. I'd imagine it should work the same, but I believe the idea behind the metering device was so you didn't expose enough gas to an unknown spark/short and cause a big boom or engine fire.
kawikid20o2
01-21-2009, 07:15 PM
Allrighty lemme go try this again, the torch is pretty slow so it should be similar but i cant seem to notice any difference at all. Maybe im not getting close enough to the manifold gasket.
ScrapinSTi
01-21-2009, 07:33 PM
I've always used Carb Cleaner... Just spray it in there, and if the rpm changes, there ya go.
EDIT: Its possible you have the coilpacks crossed.... The way to tell is the whites go in the front and the blacks in the back. (The wiring clips you racist sons of bitches!)
kawikid20o2
01-21-2009, 09:17 PM
i think i need to build a boost leak test kit...i talked to ECS today about the issue and they said that was the way to go for this crap and that my symptoms all made sense if there were some nutty leaks.
Edit: coil packs are good, thank you noah i really appreciate the help man.

Note: Inlet is an ebay silicone unit
Results of boost leak test:
Got just about 2lbs through the inlet and it started hissing like mad from somewhere under the cly 3 runner and the pcv system.
Question:
Is it bad to have the breathers all hooked up and allowing the crank case to pressurize during the test?
Should i change the inlet back to stock or work on the leaks that are present?
ScrapinSTi
01-22-2009, 12:01 PM
Are you stock turbo? Any plans to upgrade? If not and its just a 39, i'd go back to stock. Does the Ebay inlet have the port on it for the PCV system? Some aftermarkets (like Agency Power) dont have it. I know mine didnt.
kawikid20o2
01-22-2009, 12:58 PM
Its on the 39 for now but a 20g is in its future. The ebay inlet has a pcv elbow its the last thing before the turbo.
ScrapinSTi
01-22-2009, 03:35 PM
it wont hurt to throw the stocker back on. Is it a hard inlet or soft? If its a hard inlet, is it hitting the manifold? I had to hammer a few dents in my hard inlet to get it to fit right.
kawikid20o2
01-22-2009, 04:00 PM
It is a soft inlet but never mind everything i did last night replacing vac lines and pressurizing the inlet through mani with the boost leak test kit i made has fixed it. Idle is perfect and its running 22in vac. W@@T!
The worst inlet leak was at the BPV return hose.

And what map are you running? And what intake is that? Doesn't look stock Diameter, so you should REALLY remap for it... even if its just to adjust for the intake and not any boost.

kawikid20o2
01-30-2009, 11:34 PM
I dont have the lines but i can get all that with the restricter pill from the junk yard tomorrow if i will need it. I was hitting 18.5psi with the Turbosmart MBC i had.

02-04-2009, 05:39 PM
The symptoms im having are break neck acceleration at half throttle but once it gets passed half it starts to stumble and not pull right. I suppose it could be some effed up map its running that works fine for that turbo on a part load. The thing that is weird is that it will do this on any boost setting with or without the MBC too. It did this when i had the line running straight to the wastegate, just not as angry sounding as with more boost. It kinda feels like it starts to pull timing but im really not sure.
