So the ap I'm getting is going to be with 05 programming. From what I've been told/read on cobbs website, this is what my 04 should be running due to 04 aps having stalling issues, they ran an 05 update. This shouldn't have any affect on performance now should it? I'm trying to confirm with the guy I'm buying it from that it's an 04 with the update, or a straight 05 ap. If it is the 05 can I still run it? Joe, Brent, you guys should know something about this right??? :confused:

no idea, dont want to lead you in the wrong direction either. i would assume 04-05 are not too far off, but id suggest just calling cobb straight up and asking...if it were the wrong one, and you had purchased it, you could always send it in to cobb and they can get you the right stuff (i think free of chrage) since you already have the AP unit.

Hmmm. Well I'm pretty sure it's a deal. I'm getting it for a good price, so even if I can't use it I can resell and buy what I need.

I read the Cobb site again, I still have no idea. It sounds like the early 04s were stalling, the update fixed it, and that's what the 05 has. But some people are going back to the 04s because they run smoother... but occasionally stall.

Yeah, I keep going back to that page to figure it out. I creeped around the cobb forums all day too, to see if I could find any more info on it. The way it looks, I can use the 05 ap on my car and should have little, or no problems with it.

Just got off the phone with cobb. They said I can run the ap on my car. The only thing my car will do is think it's an 05. They said the only reason I should download the 04 software is A.) I have a stalling issue with 05 programming (they said a small amount of people have this problem.) or B.) when I go to inspection or emmisions my cars ecu programming matches the registration. So all systems go now!

My ap should be here tomorrow!!! But alas I won't even be able to play with it tomorrow because I have my gf's little bros graduation :( . Glad he's graduating but sad I can't play with the suby tomorrow. I'll prob just end up doing it after the whole thing. Oh yeah scott if you're reading this, want to meet up at the tri-town by you on thursday before the hooters meet?

yes, kind of.

LONG STORY SHORT:

I forgot my license
so its not registered (doesn't have transit plates = not driveable)

It threw a CEL on the way up
so i have to get a temp plate, drive it around, get emissions done (i live close enough to portland auto that if it didn't have a CEL, i'd just drive it over there unregistered) and then get it registered. i'll have temp plates by thursday though.

OK. to go a little bit more into detail about my day:

went to bed last night at 3:30 AM woke up at 8. left the house by 9 got to the bank in new haven by 9:30. got the bank check and the cash for the car. sweet. as some of you know, i won't use a wallet, i band all my cards together and keep them in my pocket. well, after i got back in the car after the bank, i didn't put the wad in my pocket, i left it in the door to grab later.

we finally get down to NJ after a little over 2 hours. my dad basically dropped me off and left because he had golf in the afternoon and needed to get back. before he left, he said, do you have everything. i checked for the envelope i had with the check and money and then checked for my insurance card and said yes. he left. me and tom (the guy i bought the car from) then went directly to his bank to deposit the money. we get there, and i check for my wad of credit cards, and its nowhere on my person. i start flipping out. my dad didn't have his cell phone on him or anything. i knew right off the bat i wasn't driving the car home that day.

we go back to his parking lot to see if i may have dropped my license somewhere. nothing. so i'm like ****. we go to the storage complex to get the stock exhaust, and decide to go to the DMV after to check to see if they will let me get a transit permit without a license. i DID have my license # and insurance card, but no other form of ID. they said no.

i mention something about him letting me take the car up with his plates and he said no (i don't blame him) but then he went on to say that he would drive the car up to my house if i drove him back. i'm like goooda. so we went over hte GWB, up the hudson pkwy, and over onto the merrit. we get up to like exit 55 and the CEL comes on. WHAT THE DUECE! we take the next exit, go to a park and ride, pop the hood. and there was really nothing wrong. the car wasn't dogging or anything, still hit full boost. he then tells me he's never driven the car on the highway for an extended period of time. we reset the CEL, and go on. about 20 miles later, the light comes on again, so i'm like whatever, and we get to 91 -> 66, go down 66 and stop at the advanced auto to get a CEL reading.

ok, thats the up pipe. really its no big deal. he has an EGT gauge and it was set off when it went a bit over 1,200 degrees.

so we get the car to my house, we're both exhausted, but i still have to make one more trip down and back. so i take him down in the tribute, and i start coming back. i got kind of lost trying to get back on the merrit, and i was real ****ing tired, and i kind of fell asleep right before exit 59 (going down the hill before the big tunnel). i hit the curb on the left and instantly woke up. i'm still pretty shaken up from that.

ALSO, i think the HIDs are two different temps. but i'm going to check them again in a bit when its a tad darker.

Yeesh so I just married my ap to the car, come inside to dl some base maps, getting "ERROR: bad accessPORT communication(0x86 0x10). contact tech support" lets just say i'm not happy. went through all the troubleshooting to set up my com ports and whatnot, no luck. anyone have this problem before???


note: i did manage to upload stage 2 91 oct onto my ecu, did not run the can this way. just needed to marry it to my car since the only 2 maps to choose from were stage 2 91 oct or stage 1 cali. the guy erased all the other maps before shipment.....

I never tried hooking mine up to my PC... mainly because I own a Mac :lol:

That sucks though. Why did he delete the maps? Stage 2 91 octane will be fine (actually safer even when running 93), you're just out about 10hp.

this is a scary parallel to an occurrence of mine :eek:
i dozed off at the end of that big straight away before the hill to the tunnel (for the first time evar) last year and, well you know... i'm :abnormal:

Yah, as long as you have a TBE, you can run either of the Stage 2 maps. Stage 2 93 would just advance the timings a bit more, so it requires 93 octane to be safe. Same as stock really, you only need 91, but you run 93, right?

Whats werid is when i got my cobb ap a few months back the gu erase like every map exept for on for a vf 39... weird... but i have the maps on my pc if you'd like a copy i'll slap them on a cd for ya... your goin to hOOters right

yeah i'm going there. actually it's weird, i got the ap to communicate finalle while i was on hold for the tech department at like 5:42, haha. Turns out i need a patch for my ap to run the ptm file extensions rather than the apm's. So i'm waiting for an email with the patch so i can dl the maps from cobbs site. Thanks to everyone for the support and help with my nOObness. Hopefully this will be over in a few minutes!

edit: aparently i have an old version for operations on the ap, hence the need for a patch/update to use the ptm's off of cobbs site.

oh ya forgot about that... sam ething happened to me,
they send u a new patch update, then ull have to get the updated ap software becuse the maps online wont work with the old firmware on the ap so that has to get updated too... whole process took about 2 hours form opening the box to finally going out and driving

Alright, so I got everything straightened out, just took my first ride at stage 2... All I have to say is HOLY S#*T I LOVE STAGE 2!!!! I pulled back in my driveway and my father had just pulled in, I pull up next to his car and he said "decided to drive this car today eh?". "For about the last 5 minutes" Puzzled look: "Why's that?", "Get in". The few moments after that were my pops yelling whoa dustin and flailing around to rear for the handles at the top of the door. haha. Anyone want to cruise tonite? I'm in the mood for driving. :devil:

Congrats man.. i just went stage 2 last sat night and its the greatest ever!!!!!!!!!!!... is your rex's exhust note rather raspy when accelrating between 28-5500 rpm... mines mean as hell

Hmmm, it sounds just as evil as before. Nothing compared to sammys exhaust note though, haha. I'm just amazed what an increase in power, and increase in spool speed. I really want to go vf34 now with pinks, pump, and aps tmic. But i better hold off until I sell my other car though. haha.
