Yes, that is right. After seeing how everyone has been disappointed by the news of WBM not happening this year (including ourselves). We have made the decision to organize something semi-big to make up for it on the same day. This so far is just a idea, but we ask you csc to help us out before we go public on all boards about it.
I have been appointed in charge of the ECS WBM (Adrian) so I need your help!
First off, ideas are needed on what, how, and where.
I so far was thinking of seeing if we could rent out a park/organize a fairly large assembly. Have games like volleyball, racquetball, etc etc setup also. We can have burgers, hot dogs, drinks for a fair price.
Next step after that we're going to need some dedicated volunteers ready and willing to help the cause in anyway possible.
Ok well anyways, lets hear some ideas/possible locations!

nope that's ok, i can do that myself when we're ready. now id like to just ask the local people that know the area best to help out with this with ideas so it doesn't turn into a giant flood of suggestions.

what about a park of some sort, they'd have the parking and somewhere that we could grill food and such.
we would have to do some sort of fundraiser for the event i would think? depending on how big it would be and such

It would be great if we could involve a charity in some way. I've got good connections (sister) to Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang camp, and it would be great if we could raise money for them. I would be more than willing to set everything up in that regard.
"The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, in collaboration with its associated camps in the United States and abroad, provides children with cancer and other serious illnesses and conditions a camping experience of the highest quality, while extending year-round support to their families and health care providers. Through our Camp programs, on-going outreach to hospitals and clinics, and other services for children, families and caregivers, the Camp serves more than 15,000 annually. All of our services are provided free of charge."

that's what we're trying to decide. we want to pick a location that can support a larger amount of parking, like a park would be great but finding one with a ton of parking is difficult. I'm hoping we can scout out some locations that could support something like this, i know I'm looking up here if anyone knows of any in ct.

we'd like to make it pretty decent size, new england region welcome. kart sounds like a good idea as long as they can rent it out for a day and provide plenty of parking. if you could look into that for me that would be great

F1 Boston, but I wouldn't suggest it.
I'll have to keep an eye on this since I didn't make it down for Memorial Day weekend. I thought there was a karting place that opened in the South Windsor area, or did I just make that up?
subygirl8330
06-15-2008, 10:32 PM
there was, but it shut down last fall :(
we should find the owner to the old east windsor show case cinemas and rent out the parking lot, lots of parking, right off the highway, it closed down last year as well.

I think the Simsbury idea is good, but we would really have to coordinate with the local authorities. Simsbury isn't exactly that easy going. This is another reason why I think attaching a charitable cause would be a very good idea.

Great idea! Although, I don't think we should go anywhere with karting or something like that... we should keep it exactly what it was started as, a big meet... we can have side stuff there like games and food, but karting meets with too many people (if this actually gets some decent numbers) seems like it'd kind of be overboard.
I would say Limerock, but they already said they had problems talking with them last year, so they went with Wachusett instead.

While at UCONN, after we pulled a 600+ car show a few years ago, we started looking into that lot for future events, but decided against it to keep tradition on campus, im sure it can be a possibility tho.

-1 for High Meadow, I wouldn't recommend it either due to the dirt parking. I got kicked out with my friend by one of our teachers, we decided to sleep in and take our cars, they didn't appreciate that :meghan:
Anyways, I +1 the Showcase cinemas parking lot. How hard would it be to get in touch with the people who have control over that area? Is it just the town?
I also +1 Rentschler field, the parking lot is PERFECT for the kind of meet you guys are trying to organize, it's f'ing massive. It's almost like pulling onto a runway. Hell, I'd be MORE than willing to contact their offices and work out an arrangement with them. Even if they say no, better to call and ask then to not call at all.

Wow, you guys are still planning to do this on the 28th, I'd love to come, so I'll try to keep that open, but that leaves only a little more than a month for planning... good luck, and let us know when things are definite! The longer you have the date, time, and place out there, the more people will come... if it's announced 2 weeks before or less, it might end up being a Wicked Small Meet instead. :(

Oooo... Mt.Tom would be great, that's 20 minutes from me! :D
Is this still for late September?! Gotta get things rolling if it is! At this point, it'd be good if we'd get 50 cars there... not quite to WBM standards. :( Would there be any vendors interested besides ECS? Would that be even allowed at Mt.Tom since it's a State Park? When I worked at one, the question of someone making money at one never came up besides ice cream/hot dogs...
subygirl8330
09-04-2008, 02:00 AM
when adrian and i had discussed it and he had talked to the park ranger, yes it would ok to have a meet there, there would be no vendors, just a huge meet/sell dogs and burgers off the grill (just a permit is needed) so no 'profits' to be made and i think they were shooting for the same wbm date, which its getting really close so descisions need to be made

xxthat girlxx
09-29-2008, 03:01 AM
I think that it's obvious by this point that WBM takes lots of time, sweat equity and devotion. If people want to have any kind of WBM you should contact the New England Subaru Club and ask them how you can help make WBM '09 happen.
If you really think a large, successful event can be pulled together in a month, pick a new name for the event and post it as something to "hold people over" until WBM. I think using WBM anywhere in the title is risky and it could be embarrassing to the planners if it doesn't work.
I agree with everything that xxthat girlxx says.

I would like to introduce myself. I'm Paul, the owner of ECS. I would like to apologize for the lack of communication with the forum in regards to this proposed, "ECS WBM". It was an idea that we had at the shop when we found out that the real WBM was being canceled. At that point, some people affiliated with ECS, no names mentioned, decided to start threads such as this. Myself and my staff are way to busy building the cars you all desire to plan an event such as this. Therefor, Let this be notice that ECS does not intend to do an event such as this. And that this threads and others like it should be put to an end. Please contact me via PM if there are other threads that i should be posting in. Thanks.
Regards,
-Paul
