View Full Version : Thinking about a new car

So I almost had plans of not buying a car this year (i buy about 1 new one a year, 2006 was a special year in which i bought 2). But because of the prices of cars these days and the fact that tommy thinks he's a bigger baller than me, I've been thinking for a while about one of these:
mmm (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=255536405&dealer_id=63608509&car_year=2005&rdm=1231479522642&model=M3&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1999&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=200&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&first_record=176&make=BMW&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=06416&advanced=&end_year=2007&pager.offset=175&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=72&rdpage=thumb)

I wouldn't be able to get it on the salary I make now... but if things change soon i see one of these in my future. Normally I'd say the e36 is my favorite body style, but i looovvee the e46 m3 (hate the regular 3 series my2000+)

I'd do it if you can afford it Scott.

If I'm in the country after I graduate/move/find a new job, I'll be thinking of the same thing along with the 335i coupe or one of the new turbo Z4s as a daily with the WRX being stripped and rebuilt for the track. Need something a bit more luxurious for everyday use and for the less performance-inclined people I know/will be meeting.

its one of my fiance's goals to have matching BMWs so i have her support... I think I may hold off this year, sell the mr2, and wait till spring 2010 after i turn 25 (insurance drop, although a 2005 M3 is only $600/year more to insure than a 2002 MR2 Spyder, which really, is not too too much considering it has like 3x's the HP..

fantomas
01-13-2009, 05:33 AM
Well, was also thinking about an STi.. and did some quick quotes on geico for the insurance rates.. boy was i shocked
for a 2004 BMW M3 Coupe - $735.40 for 6 months
for a 2004 Subaru WRX Sti - $1,048.50 for 6 months

that's re-god-damn-diculous. Same coverages. As a baseline, I'm currently w/ traveler's which I'm paying $952 for 6 months for the OBS and MR2

Jubert69
01-13-2009, 06:06 AM
My WRX is $700/Yr, makes sense I think.

fantomas
01-13-2009, 06:53 AM
that it costs less to insure a european car that costs 2x to replace as a japanese car with about the same power?

fantomas
01-13-2009, 06:55 AM
i'm not talking about the actual price, i'm referring to the fact that the sti cost 33% more to insure than an m3

turbo_turtle
01-13-2009, 08:50 AM
It's the risk that you are insuring, not the value. STi's get into accidents far more often than M3's per quantity sold.

My '06 STI is about $1200 per 6 months to insure. I get about $150 off that if I have the WRX insured at the same time, which is $600 something per 6 months.

06-21-2009, 05:32 PM
kinda funny... i'm looking to buy another car for a DD... looking at a 92 civic.. if i buy the civic, make it my DD on my insurance, my insurance will DROP $30 A MONTH... lol.. its $180 cheaper for 6 months to insure two cars rather than one.

JHawley
06-21-2009, 08:08 PM
noah, we seriously need to push our cars off a huge fucking cliff.

snowman87
06-21-2009, 08:45 PM
Screw it, just report them stolen then drive them around like you stole it and crash into each other then run away. Problem solved.

My buddy did the same thing, bought an 05 330ci and insured his 87 325i as his daily and was paying 50 a month less for both that he was for 1.
