View Full Version : Subydude82's 2004 WRX

Okay so I finally decided to document my progress on my WRX. I bought the car in Nov of 03. After I racked up 12k in 8 months, it was time for new tires and brakes since I used to live up in the hills... enough said. I quickly upgraded the brakes with hawk hps pads and powerslot rotors and put on some nice all season BFG's. Then from there the mod addiction happened, I soon had a borla cbe, gutted my stock uppipe, had my td04 sent out to deadbolt for some PnP work. Soon after that I bought my APv1, APS TBE, installed defi gauges (boost, egt and oil pressure). I then started to tune my own car and bought cobbs streetuner software to assist me with this. Earlier this year I bought Gerald's Deadbolt 18g turbo and Helix 660 injectors. After finally getting around to installing the injectors, fp and turbo I brought my car down to EFI for some tuning. Once my car was on the dyno Chris quickly found that one of my injectors had just started leaking (my fault), so EFI changed out the torn O ring. Chris had my car tuned in 3 pulls! Final numbers were 275whp and 258 tq @19psi. I was very excited considering my previous tune had put down 229whp and 232tq back on Aug 8th at EFI's dyno day.

My current mods are:

Engine:
PnP stock exhaust manifold by Grimmspeed
Grimmspeed Uppipe
Deadbolt 18g
APS 3' TBE
Helix 660 injectors
Walboro fp
Kartboy exhaust hangers
Cobb AP with Streetuner software
STI TMIC with silicon hoses
SPT Short ram intake with heatshield
Throttle body coolant bypass
GM BCS
Factory SS shifter

Brakes:
ATE brake fluid
Goodrich SS lines
Power slot rotors in the front with Hawk hps pads
DBA 4000 H6 rotors in the rear with hps pads

Exterior:
Rota 18' Formula wheels
replica STI lip spoiler
STI hood Scoop
STI corner splitters
rally mud flaps made by me out of rubber
Debadge trunk
35% tints
Subaru Grill delete
Cleared headlights with halo's and 55w HID's

Interior:

Defi Boost, EGT and Oil temp gauges in the A pillar pod
Heated seats installed by long radio of Enfield
Alpine CD/MP3 head unit with Ipod hook up
1 JL 12' W3v2 sub powered by JL 300/1 amp

Future go fast mods waiting to be installed:

TGV deletes
Phelonic spacers
APS Turbo Inlet

Thanks meng! yeah the car pulls real strong all the way to redline! I love driving my car again! :) Now I need to start saving for my coilovers.

09-23-2009, 01:48 PM
Coilovers, yeah I need to get some too.

How about your tranny? I'm scared right now my Stage 2 is going to snap, I can't imagine me having an 18g.

subydude82
09-23-2009, 01:51 PM
My tranny so far is great! I think as long as you don't slam gears or launch the car you will be fine. If it was a built 2.5l with the 18g then I would be worried! :) I have been stage 2 since 25k, the car now has 92k and runs like new still. I have been running amsoil 5W-30 synthetic in it since 3k. I recently switch to 20w-50. Car really likes it.

wow that an impressive how well it holds up top. Noticed you didn't have a TMIC in future mods. Decided to keep the sti TMIC?

subydude82
09-23-2009, 06:04 PM
Not sure what route I want to go as far as the intercooler goes. I really like the APS DR525 FMIC, but have a bunch of other things I need that money for! For now I will keep the STI TMIC unless I come accross a deal I can't refuse!

Though I'm pretty happy I've been driving the wagon lately...I don't have to step two feet out to get out of my car without stepping on the sideskirts!

Yeah that is one of the things I have noticed so far, but since I do not have short asian legs it hasn't been much of a problem. j/k :)

The bigger problem is now my car really looks like its lifted! Now I really need to buy coilovers!

subydude82

Nice

Thanks Mike. yeah I have done alot to her this winter.

I installed una's sexy rearend from TIC, transmission crossmember bushings, TIC pivot bushing, Kartboy shifter bushing and Kartboy rear shifter bushing.

Hopefully tonight I can get the steering rack bushing's in. Also when I went to install the rear subframe bolts the holes were completely rusted. So my buddy had a 12mm x1.25 tap that I was able to use to clean the holes out.

Here are a few pics of the rear bushing install. I should have taken more but my hands were dirty and I really didn't want to get grease on my new camera. :)

It was great to see all the guys down at EFI. Chris tuned my car but could only get 20 psi out of my car. Chris did some quick checking and we found out I have a 9 psi wastegate actuator. So I need to buy an upgraded wastegate actuator. So I am working with Subimods to get a forged 14psi wastegate actuator. Once I get that baby installed I will head back down to EFI for my tune. :D

Wow man, I'd be scared to do that w/ the CAI filter like right there.

Yea didn't really know it was that deep. But even if the filter was half submerged it wouldn't suck water up since half the filter is still able to suck air and I wasn't trying to floor it to get out. to fully submerge my filter i think i would need water almost up to my fender and by then i think I have other issues....

overported wastegate we believe. :banghead: I even upgraded to a 15psi wastegate and at 90% duty cycles we still were not holding boost to redline. So I have to options. Go EWG or buy a new turbo. Yes I did them myself. Yes I need to take pics (hopefully tonight) of the light output. The deal I got these babies for was too good to pass up! ($110.00 shipped for the pair) It was a toss up to do the ccfl's or not. I did them to try and be different. We will see how it goes. I may buy another set of shrouds and rock em with out ccfl's for a bit. :rocker:

looks good, any difference compared to STI headlights other then looks.

subydude82
06-24-2010, 08:06 PM
yeah, the light output on the STi's is not even in the same league. Since these are projector retrofits, its 2 completely different animals. The projectors are definately better at light distribution and the cutoff looks sick! The other big difference is that I am running 6k HID bulbs and I believe stock bulbs on the STi's are 5k.

kawikid20o2
06-24-2010, 08:38 PM
STi projectors aren't bad for low beams with a clear lens upgrade but these are still wider sharper brighter and have a hi beam that will blow any other (except TL with clear lens) out of the water.

Dude nice work! I'm sure you're enjoying being able
to see at night+ a little extra!

I am debating, I have some RS6 projectors / E46 Shrouds and some Catz JDM HID reflectors that I could use as my low beams, they both have a perfect flat cut off but I'm not sure which to use at this point!

Yours look awesome, so I'm really tempted to go projectors, and I'd offer a swap for shrouds, but I painted mine black over the chrome.
