View Full Version : 4eat final drives

I have a 98L with a 2.2 in it, I believe the final drive is 4.11. My question is what other models and years came with a 4.11 final drive? I have been looking around and there is not much info for the 4eat its all for the 5 or 6spd. I need to replace a trans and need it to be as straight forward as possible, so that I don't have to swap the rear diff too.
Thanks

Just remember that you'll most likely want to stick with a N/A trans to keep the everything simple. Switching to a turbo trans will warrant clutch type changing. :)

I have very little experience or knowledge of subaru auto transmissions. I'll search and post information I find that I believe is relevant to your topic though...
The Phase 1 4EAT ('90-'98?) had tranny wiring harness changes in '95+ when OBD2 standards arrrived, and although the plugs may connect to your Phase 2 harness, they are wired different, so your TCU may not be able to control it.

Looks like most phase2 4eat with 4.11fd ratio would work just fine. There is a way to tell the ratio by the tag, but have yet to find a detailed list or way to obtain the information from the tag. Have a little time at work today so I'm just trying to be helpful

I've looked through countless thread on NASIOC and teh interwebz trying to figure out how to read the transmission tags. Perhaps a call to a friendly subaru dealership will yield some more useful information....

I got a call back from a friend at subaru. He said they don't do enough trans work to memorize how the coding works. They said if you find an used units to give me the code and I'll call and they'll look in the service manual.
Hope that may help a littile....

Amazing, the truck you didnt want to spend money on is somehow my problem.. I told you that it was out of my hands, plus the guy got $1500 more than what you were even willing to pay... IF you hadn't been such a Dickface 3 year old child throwing a I WANT tantrum, I will have helped you buy the truck, since it ened up going to the auction....
Anyhow, back to the issue at hand. Thanks Dusty for trying to be helpful
